Transformational Media Is Out of the Gate

Hollywood is notorious for curious pairings, but one night in June 2009, an unusual duo took the stage at Fox Studios: often-zany actor Jim Carrey and spiritual author Eckhart Tolle. Gate - John, Eckhart & Jim lo resCarrey was MC and Tolle delivered the keynote at the first Gate conference, a gathering of 500 people from the entertainment, media and body/mind/spirit communities on the transformational power of media. Since then, LA-based GATE (Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment) founder-chairman-CEO John Raatz and honorary co-founders Eckhart Tolle and Jim Carrey have legally organized as a 501c6 nonprofit membership trade association, open to entertainment, media and arts professionals seeking to share their personal transformation through their work.

Despite prevailing film industry trends, there is a huge market for this type of material, as we know from a plethora of documentary films, books and CDs, as well as such mainstream blockbusters as Avatar and Field of Dreams. Carrey is not alone in his feeling that, “If I could watch this stuff 24 hours a day, that’s where I’d be, because it’s ideas, and ideas are working. People have something to take away, and they crave it, they’re dying for it.”

In support of this demand, GATE’s next event will be the Transformational Story Conference: Awakening Spirit Through Transformation on February 4, 2012 at the Wadsworth Theatre. The evening will feature Jim Carrey, Frances Fisher, Jean Houston, Eckhart Tolle, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Edward James Olmos and many others. Many of the presenters are high-profile, all are steeped in transformational arts and media.

GATE will also be launching its Imaginal Awards, the first competition to honor the best works in this field; winners will be honored at a ceremony each February.

For Angelenos interested in transformational media, this conference promises to be a powerful and stimulating event.
